Versus; Sth. Districts Weather; Fine warm Pitch; Muddy Score; loss 22-12 Ref; Jim Capt; Pete Collins Man of Match; Pete Collins A full team plus a reserve as we left the rooms and eight extras turning up at various stages around KO time. We started on a bright note and just 4 mins into time we pilfered the ball and with a kick downfield saw the centre combination of Goodman and Turner set off in pursuit, Sths fullback looked to have it covered in the in-goal area but Jack and Dickie both dived under him with Jack claiming the try, conversion missed. Dickie said after the game he could have scored it but at the last moment remembered that it was worth a slab and pulled out. The forward momentum for the early part was the best all season with commitment to the ruck and defence a standout, but with a laspe near half time we turned at 10-5 down. The second half started with Southern fired up and letting loose their steppers and as our defence fell away in various positions they went in for another try, this only led to Capt. Pete starting a few fires himself trying to get his troops to follow and they did with a good passage of play again leading to Jack scoring close to the post and Eddie converting 15-12 . Southern came back hard and were held out by dynamic covering tackles by Pete closely followed Dickie, 'Dinga' Grey, Chillian Chris,Steve Merchant, but alas they sneaked through for a try and conversion in the last hectic and fiesty minutes. 22-12 but who knows if a few passes were held.. one last game at home v Moorabbin KO 2pm-- supporters welcome.
