Venue : Moorabbin
Weather : Fine & windy Pitch : Good Score : LOST 71 to 5 Referee : Lee Lorne Captain : Nathan (Captain Mannering) Banks Man of the Match : Clive Welti On a blustery fine day the Quenchies turned up to do battle with Moorabbin. At least some did. Lacking some outside backs for a variety of reasons we fielded a full team. Kicking into the wind the Quenchies found it hard to make advancement particularly when kicking as the ball travelled 2 metres forward then 3 metres back. Moorabbin started to score and by half time had crossed our line 7 times. We were grateful they did not have a kicker. Several forays into the Moorabbin half saw Boxhill stopped short by tenacious defence. Clive Welti at 5/8ths led the backs in several attacking manoeuvres forcing the Moorabbin players to cover defence. Carlo Fogale chased and tackled all day but was outnumbered by too many Moorabbin players supporting the ball carrier. In the second half the forwards made inroads against the Moorabbin Pack with rolling mauls gaining advantage to then send the backs away in another probing attack. Moorabbin still managed to score several times and it looked like Boxhill would be scoreless until one of the “ring ins” scored for us . WE held them to only 6 tries in the second half as they must have been tiring. With too many players absent many had to play a full game and this showed our fitness levels.
