Venue: Melbourne University
Weather: Windy & Showery Pitch: good Score: LOST 17 - 0 Referee: Gerry Collins Captain: Rod Bird Man of the Match: Rod Jones A windy day and we had 16 players turn up, unfortunately only 5 were backs. But the fill in Wingers Peter Fuller & Glen Hill did a great job. The game got off to a good start with Boxhill putting on the pressure from the kickoff. The first 20 minutes were played in the Quins half but we were unable to convert the effort into tries. Birdy filling in a halfback sent our backs running and only determined tackling from Quins stopped us from reaching the line. The forwards played their usual tight game and many great tackles saved tries being scored. Backs, Ric Makin and Jiff Reilly obtained leave passes from home and were welcomed as prodigal sons. Barry Heydon returned to the fold and to deny rumours of his passing away. New player David SELBY-SMITH an ex winger who is now a forward played well. The half time score being nil all we thought today is the day. The second half proceeded along the lines of the first until the last 10 minutes when fatigue obviously overtook the entire team and we let in 3 tries in 10 minutes. With several players out with severe injuries such as broken fingernails etc we need as many players as we can muster to be at Maroondah next week. At 2.00 pm against Southern Districts. Melways 37 B7.
