Venue: Melbourne University
Weather: Good Pitch: Good Score: LOST 39 – 17 Referee: Jim Lawrenson Captain: Ant Balocca Man of the Match: “Pommie” Paul Holden Where have all the Forwards gone? The game started with 2 backs and Walshie in the front row. Thanks Ant and Chris Peugeot. We started off well and pressed Quins early in the game before a try by invitee “Rama” from Moorabbin. 5-0 to us. Quick ball from the rucks and mauls allowed the Boxhill backs to run free and only the stout defence of quins prevented another score. Glenn Hill and Jim Halls leading the forwards in securing good ball and Steve Merchant had his backs running. Jamie Myers running into the backline time after time caused the Quins backs trouble but we were unable to penetrate the defence. Quins charged and due to loose tackling and good support from their forwards crossed the line. 5-5. Pete Collins came into half and was able to evade the opposition tacklers to score. 12-5. This was looking good but Quins managed another try down the sideline and shortly after scored another. The half time score read Boxhill 12, Quins 17. The second half commenced with Quins backs charging down the field when “Delicate “Dennis Collard put his body on the line for tackle of the day but unfortunately went down like the Titanic and his groans sounded like the Titanic’s Fog horn OOOOOOHHHH. Carried from the field he discovered ribs he didn’t know he had. Meanwhile back on the pitch Boxhill still continued to attack and a brilliant knock-on and gather by Pommie Paul saw him over the line. 17-17 That was the end of Box hill’s scoring and Quins took advantage of Dennis being off the pitch to run in another 4 tries due to loose tackles and poor support. With several players out with injuries the 2 week break will be most welcome. The next match is on 13th June against Southern Districts at 2.00pm at Harlequins Melways map 60 h12.
