Venue: MAROONDAH
Weather: GOOD Pitch: GOOD Score: LOST 38-28 Referee: JIM LAWRENSON Captain: ROD JONES Man of the Match: CHRIS (PEUGEOT) ANDREWS A good day with no rain and closer to home we fielded a team of 20 players. It was good to see some old faces returned such as Pete Collins, Jamie Meyer, Sam Hema and Clive Welti. We also had 2 newcomers in Chris Goycoolea and Richard (Dick) Turner. The Quenchies received the ball from the kick-off and immediately swung into action with good ball from the pack fed to the backline which looked like it meant business. The game surged back and forth until endeavour Hills crossed the line 5-0 The game continued with some determined tackling by the Quenchies but a loose tackle allowed Endeavour Hills to score again. 10-0 It looked as though it was going to be another benefit for our opposition but strong running by the backs put “Fast Eddy” over the line and under the posts for a try which he converted. 10-7 The forwards rucked and mauled strongly and a movement saw the backs heading for the line with the Flying Frenchman Francois sprinting for the line and cutting inside slipped a reverse pass to Pulsating Pommie Paul who scored. The try was converted 10-14. Endeavour Hills scored another try near halftime and at the whistle it was 17-14. With their confidence growing the Boxhill forwards provided good ball to a backline that ran straight and tackled. Several probes by Fullback Meyers saw the Quenchies press Endeavour Hills hard and a brilliant toe on by Darcas supported by Meyers saw another score to Box Hill. This was converted and the score read 17-21, unknown territory this year. Endeavour Hills in reply scored again and converted. 24 - 21 A good run by Pete Collins saw him cross the line for a try out wide and was converted by Ant Balocca. 24 – 28. An offside tackle saw Chris Andrews concussed and had to leave the field after a strong performance at Centre. With the clock ticking down we’re in we thought but a lapse in tackling allowed Endeavour Hills to again cross our line twice within the last 10 minutes to run out winners 38-28. Next week we are at home to Melbourne University, kick –off at 2.00 pm.
