Venue : MELBOURNE UNIVERSITY
Weather : FINE Pitch : Good Score : LOST 42 - 12 Referee : JIM LAWRENSON Captain : CLIVE WELTI Man of the Match : DAVID RICHARDSON With a full team and 4 reserves we met Endeavour Hills who unusually had only 12 players so the referee instituted the rule that we could only have 1 player more than the opposition on the field at any one time. Boxhill started off well from the kick off and were soon pressing the opposition back. Endeavour Hills scored the first try but did not convert. The BoxHill forwards were securing good ball for the backs but were unable to penetrate the Endeavour Hills defence as too many times the backs tried to break through the line only to turn over the ball and put Boxhill back on the defence. From a loose ruck the ball was passed out on the blind side and reached that intrepid winger Dennis Collard who surprising all caught the pass and ran towards the line stepping around an opponent (who was obviously asleep) to score under the posts. The crowds on the sideline were amazed and thought it must be a mirage. Clive Welti kicked the conversion and the half time score was 12 – 7 to Endeavour Hills. The opposition ran in several tries due to poor tackling and it was not until the 15th minute of the second half that BoxHill actually scored. Daniel Gaspic playing his first game of Rugby Union after a nine year lay off from League scored from loose play after the forwards had driven the opposition back near their own line. He was congratulated by all and promptly advised by Dennis that he was up for a slab continuing the tradition of the first try scored by a player for the Unquenchables must buy a slab of beer. Endeavour Hills continued to score despite good runs from David Selby-smith , Peter Collins and Clive Welti . We suffered several injuries in the second half to Clive Welti, Ant Balocca and Hinga Marsh which did not help. The final score of 42 – 12 did not reflect the standard of the game. This season we have lost several players to injuries keeping them out for the rest of the year. Raymon Geujels and Carlo Fogale will be out until 2012 season.
