We welcomed several new players have joined us this year 2 of them not having played the game before. They are Hinga Marsh, Carlo Fogale, David Richardson, Raymon Geijels and also Mike Railey returning after a few years absence. A confident team led by Kevin Walsh took the field and were soon putting pressure on Eltham. The forwards won good ball and Quinton Ritchie sent the backs into attack with the ball reaching Collard on the wing where he was tackled into touch. The play seesawed up and down the field until Eltham scored out wide. With the score 5 – 0 Boxhill again attacked and through a series of second phase play until Pete Fuller starting the season after being in a good paddock scored used his bulk to cross the line to even the score. Eltham scored again and the half time score was 12 – 5./p> Early in the second half with Boxhill pressing Eltham deep in their own 22 a brilliant intercept by Jiff Reilly in front of the posts resulted in a try. Jiff converted and the score was 12 all. Shortly afterwards Captain Kevin Walsh crossed the line after a continuous attack by the forwards. With the score at 17-12 Eltham swept down the field and scored out wide to level the scores again. New player David Richardson showed his turn of speed following up a kick to tackle the Eltham Fullback and hold up play until the Boxhill forwards arrived. Shortly after this David received a pass out wide and scored his first try in his maiden game. He was promptly advised that he was up for a slab next week. Eltham replied with another 2 tries late in the second half and just managed to hold out Boxhill till fulltime. It was a very even game and played in the right spirit.
