Venue: MOORABBIN
Weather: COLD & WINDY Pitch: DRY & ROUGH Score: LOST 101 - 22 Referee: Ian Chesworth Captain: Peter Fuller Man of the Match: Carl Ramage A cold and windy day on a pitch that had seen better days. A stalwart group of 10 players took the field, all 11 of them including Brian (CLAPPY) Carrigan who left the comfort of his bayside retirement home to relive his youth. Unfortunately when Clappy played for the Quenchies we used to win. A thanks to:- Eddie Jackson, Carl Ramage, Alex Tautau in the backs and Peter Fuller, Jim Halls, Rod Jones, Greg Joubert, Stuart Ramsden,Colin Reid, Tony Tennant and Clappy in the forwards plus 2 University gents for turning up and playing. We were massacred by Booroondara who decided to inflict a humiliating score against us and despite our best efforts with only 12 against 15 it was inevitable. Led by Peter Fuller and playing with the wind we were unable to score and prevent Booroondara scoring repeatedly. While the backs chased to tackle there were too many opposition backing up to stop tries. The second half commenced with further tries to Booroondara and then the Quenchies decided enough was enough and with strong running from the backs Alex Tautau scored. Shortly after this one of the University players scored for us and we were becoming a threat to Booroondara. Further tries from Tony Traralgon and Colin Reid helped reduce the deficit. A brilliant run by Nathan(Captain Mainwaring)Banks saw him charging towards the line and as he crossed for a try threw it backwards. NO SCORE. The fear of success in his eyes. As it grew dark the referee mercifully blew full time. Next weeks match is at Endeavour Hills at 2.00 pm Melways 91 H8 It is hoped that a few more players can find their way there.
