A small crew of Quenchies visited Adelaide over the first week end of April this year, for the Rugby 7s.
Kevin & Jim left Melbourne first, on Thursday, therefore got to Adelaide first. Kevin was overjoyed when the hotel receptionist remembered him by first name from last year. Your reporter did not ask questions further. Alex joined them in Adelaide for a beer that afternoon, and to provide team uniforms (cast offs from Hong Kong the week before), then went back to work and never to be seen again. Shame on him. Tony was accompanied by spouse, for some reason. Don't fret, she's been on tour before, and Greg joined shortly thereafter. An early night was intended to be had by all. (Rod, Rick, Chris & Paul got in somewhere here?) Whatever happened between Thursday noon and Friday evening is unclear. "What's on tour, etc. etc", but there is more than one pub in Glenelg, OK! All your reporter has been informed is that Kenya beat South Africa on the Friday night. Note that Kenya knocked New Zealand out of the Hong Kong Rugby 7s the prior week end and that Kenya learned all they know while training and drinking at the Box Hill club grounds in 2005! At least one Kenyan supporter also expressed a fervent wish to Jim, while rejoicing with the Unquenchables that Friday evening, to 'play at your club' (Help!). An early night was intended to be had by all. Saturday was quite memorable, drinking Coopers pale ale, and I'm sure somebody does.......... Jim was again acosted by a stray lady, but this time she was actually known, having almost been granted honourary Unquenchables membership at the Adelaide Rugby 7s last year. No names, no pack drill, because Pommy Paul, who missed the event caring for his beloved Mum, is aquainted. Believe it or not, this stray lady's reason for being at this year's event was to bring a female work colleage to get ***d <i.e. better aquainted with a rugby man>. Your reporter is assured that this was a typical selfless act. While leaving the stadium that evening, Chris made a friend of a person dressed in a policeman's costume. Unfortunately, the plod did not appreciate Chris' humour, so......he and Paul (his chaperone) were late for supper. Unfortunately, the joke was so crass we can not publish here, so ask Chris yourself! However, when you know that it involved Roy, an ex-clubman now living near Adelaide, you will understand a little more.An early night was intended to be had by all. Sunday was finals day. Regretably, again drinking Coopers, but this time your reporter is adament that it was lite ale mascarading as Pale Ale (perhaps that's why some Unquenchables have grown green hair in the photos). An early night was intended to be had by all.
