It is with great sadness to inform you of the passing of Broncos Legend Ron Saunders on Saturday January 2, 2021 peacefully age 87.
Ron Joined Box Hill Rugby in 1963 after 7 enjoyable seasons at Footscray and 3 years at Harlequins including the 1955 1st grade premiership. Ron Played until 1990 when he had a heart attack during a game but decided he wasn’t fit rather than in danger! Ron then served on the committee for more years than anyone can remember holding the roles of President, Vice President and Secretary. Ron also Coached and managed at Senior and Junior levels both at Box Hill and State level. He played for Victoria Seniors from 1954 to 1963 - favourite memory was beating Queensland in 1961 by 19-15! Ron also served on the VRU committee for many years including as Vice President. He was instrumental in establishing the Unquenchables as he believed age is just a number. A proud Bronco to the end he was looking forward to seeing the 1sts play under lights while enjoying a cold ale with his mates. Our sincere condolences to the Saunders family during this difficult time, the Broncos and it supporters are mourning with you as we celebrate and remember one of it's greats! RIP Ron - Dad - Pa |
